
Dr. Brett Finlay, Wall Distinguished Professor, received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal on April 11, 2012. The Medal is awarded to Canadian citizens or permanent residents who have made significant contributions to Canada or for an outstanding achievement abroad that has brought great credit to Canada.

Christina Laffin, Assistant Professor Asian Studies and 2006-2007 Wall Early Career Scholar, has been appointed as the new Canada Research Chair in Premodern Literature and Culture. Her research explores pre-18th Century portrayals of Japanese women.
Terrance Snutch, professor in UBC’s Michael Smith Laboratories and Wall Faculty Associate, has been renewed as the Canada Research Chair in Biotechnology and Genomics – Neurobiology. His research explores migraines, epilepsy, chronic pain, addiction and blindness.
The Canada Research Chairs Program was launched by the federal government in 2000 to help Canadian universities attract and retain the world’s best researchers.
